THORACIC OPENING: MUSCLE & FASCIA
Learn the 4 key ingredients to a phenomenal hip hinge that builds you up rather than breaks you down! 1. Internal Rotation 2. Neutral Curves of Spine 3. Hip Centered Movement 4. Hip Drive
LEARN HOW TO HIP HINGE:
In this video, I read from chapter 3 in Pema children’s book, “When Things Fall Apart.”
THIS VERY MOMENT IS THE PERFECT TEACHER | READING FROM PEMA CHODRON
In this video, I read from chapter 4 in Bruce Tift‘s book, “Already Free.“ This chapter is about experiencing anxiety and struggle. I have previously read from this chapter in two videos. Here I pick up on page 143 and read about both, “Binding Anxiety in Groups,” and committing to the experience of anxiety. In this part of the chapter, he suggests that we open up to feeling our anxiety, that we be ready to feel anxious at any second and we become willing to work with the energy of anxiety for the rest of our lives. He suggests that we give up on a fantasy of a life that is free of anxiety.
COMMITTING TO OUR ANXIETY
In this video I go through some of the anatomy of breathing. You will learn through watching that breathing is not an isolated thing that one part of our body does, but actually a full body movement! So many of us think of breathing just with our diaphragm, but breathing well requires the participation of most of our body! We can use our body to facilitate opening up our breath and we can also use our breath to resurrect the integrity of our structure! Understanding the anatomy is incredibly helpful for interoception. Visualizing the anatomy while doing breathing practices can open up a whole world of sensing, feeling and gaining access to moving things you maybe have never moved before. This can make practices much more empowering because your greater access to your own system can help you know yourself better and become much more effective at creating positive adaptations in the body.
ANATOMY OF THE BREATH
In this video I read from Chapter 4 of James Nestor’s Book “Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art” I like to read this chapter to new students who have joined my Intro To Foundation Course and are in Phase 1 of Foundation Training because it very much captures and speaks to what the Foundation Training practice can create and the writing is a wonderful platform for me to start to expound on teaching many related topics! “What the bodily form depends upon is breath and what breath relies upon is form. When the breath is perfect, the form is perfect too.“ – Chinese adage from 700 A.D.

GLUTES, HIPS & OUTER THIGHS
Mobilize, strengthen, learn, articulate, and free up this lower shank of the leg! The lower shank of the leg is full of the "puppet strings" of the foot and ankle. Get your feet and ankles working much better and see if it impacts your knees, hips, lower back, sciatic nerve, blood flow, and fluid retention! - Knee pain can come from feet and ankles that aren't able to work well. Freeing up the feet and ankles can have a huge impact on the knee! - Hip pain can be a result of feet and ankles that aren't moving or working in the ways they are meant to. When all the movement that is supposed to be happening in the feet and ankles isn't, this puts extra forces into the hip and asks the hip to move so much more than it would if the load of movement were more disbursed between the hip and ankle. - Often times low back pain is a result of hips, knees, feet and ankles that aren't working well. If the feet, ankles, knees and hips are rigid and immobile, it puts all the force of movement into the low back causing quite a lot of compression and wear. - Sometimes sciatica being in the lower spine or glutes can actually be coming from the nerve being impinged or stuck below. This nerve travels from the lumbar spine, through the glutes, down the back of the thigh, splits into many branches at the knee, and all through the shank, then down into the foot. If the tissue is hard, dense, immobile, compressive, it can impinge on that nerve's ability to function and cause pain anywhere along its pathway. So often, where we feel the symptom, is not where the the root of the problem is coming from! - The calf muscle is sometimes called our "second heart" because of it's pumping action and work with the blood. Many folks that have trouble with blood flow or fluid accumulation like edema need to get their feet and shins working and when they do it improves the landscape of tissue and it's function so that the fluids and blood vessels that move through this landscape can have a much smoother and more balanced time!
SHIN, ANKLE & CALF | THE SHANK
This is a muscle and fascial exploration into the rib cage, thoracic spine and lung expansion capacity we each have! You will learn to activate things, increase sensation and get a nice muscle & fascial opening here!
THORACIC, RIB CAGE & BREATH EXPANSION!
Here I am reading from Chapter 1 of Dr. Harriet Lerner’s book! This book has been really inspiring me to apologize for things that have been holding me back in relationship! Being able to do repair work when we mess up makes quite a lot possible and can actually deepen relationships!
